DEBENS
An Architectural Geometric Abstraction

BIOGRAPHY
Born in Barcelona in 1980, DEBENS (Hugo Garcia Debens) has established himself today as a figure of contemporary geometric abstraction. His work explores the interactions between forms and colors, playing on the balance of compositions and the tension of lines. Trained at the Fine Arts School of Barcelona, he developed an approach where architectural rigor dialogues with a free and intuitive gesture, creating works that are both structured and vibrant.
Through his paintings and assemblages, DEBENS plays with chromatic superpositions, angular cutouts and textures to compose spaces in movement. His pictorial universe, marked by a refined aesthetic and an immersive dynamic, recalls the principles of constructivism and op art , while anchoring itself in a contemporary sensibility. Each work is a study of the balance between full and empty, where color, always in tension, becomes architecture.
Although DEBENS is fully part of the tradition of abstract art , his career has also led him to experiment with large-scale painting in public spaces. This relationship with the urban environment is reflected in his work: the rhythm of the facades, the tension of perspectives, the fragmentation of spaces, all elements that nourish his artistic research. He thus goes beyond the boundary between painting and architecture, exploring compositions that seem both constructed and in perpetual evolution.
Based in Paris since 2012, DEBENS exhibits worldwide, from San Francisco to Barcelona, London, and Paris. His work has been featured in major exhibitions such as Major Minority in the United States, Abstract Jam in Spain, and the Label Valette Festival in France. His unique take on contemporary abstraction appeals to art galleries as well as design and interior architecture professionals, harmoniously integrating his works into spaces where art interacts with the environment.
His aesthetic, both structured and organic, fits naturally into spaces where the dialogue between art and the environment is essential. His growing recognition among international collectors attests to a growing appeal for his compositions, at the crossroads of lyrical abstraction and architectural construction .
