About the artwork
Emmet Kierans here returns to a central motif of his work: proms, ceremonies, these rituals of recognition where everything is played out in the gaze of the other.
The faces, intentionally softened, become archetypes. The image seems extracted from a 1950s film or an old advertisement, filtered by memory rather than reality.
His works are part of the prestigious collections of the Arts Council of Ireland, Trinity College Dublin and the Office of Public Works. They are also featured in numerous private collections in Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
His major exhibitions include: the National Gallery of Ireland, the Royal Academy of Arts in London and the Galway Arts Centre.
